In-Play (Live) Betting Explained
In-play betting — also called live betting — lets you bet on an event after it has started, with odds that update in real time as the action unfolds. It turns a match into a continuously priced market. This guide explains how it works and what to watch for, using hypothetical examples only.

What in-play betting is
Pre-match odds are fixed before kick-off; in-play odds move live. Every goal, point, card or momentum shift causes the book to re-price the open markets. You are betting against a number that is constantly changing, so timing matters.
Why live odds move
Odds reflect the implied probability of an outcome (see how odds work). As that probability changes during play, so does the price.
Suspensions & bet acceptance
Books briefly suspend markets around key moments (a goal, a penalty, a video review) while they re-price. During a suspension you cannot place that bet. Some operators also use a short delay on acceptance, so a bet can be rejected if the odds move before it is confirmed.
Settlement & cash out
Live bets settle on the same rules as pre-match bets for that market. Many in-play bettors also use cash out to lock in a profit or limit a loss before the event ends. Read the market rules — some live markets (next goal, next point) settle in stages.
In-play betting tips
Watch the event if you can rather than betting blind off the numbers, decide your price in advance so you are not chasing a moving line, and be aware of suspensions around big moments. In-play is fast — discipline matters more here than in any other format.
