Blackjack Rules Explained
Blackjack is a card game where you try to beat the dealer by getting closer to 21 without going over. Unlike baccarat, you make decisions that affect the outcome. This guide explains the rules. Exact payouts are shown in the game.
- You try to get a hand closer to 21 than the dealer without going over.
- A two-card 21 (a 'blackjack') usually pays 3:2, while a normal winning hand pays even money.
- A push is a tie with the dealer on the same total.
The objective
You and the dealer are dealt cards. You want a hand total closer to 21 than the dealer's without exceeding 21. Going over 21 is a 'bust' and an automatic loss.
Card values
Cards 2-10 count their face value; picture cards count 10; an Ace counts 1 or 11, whichever helps. A two-card 21 (an Ace plus a ten-value card) is a 'blackjack', which usually pays 3:2.
Player actions
On your turn you can:
- Hit — take another card.
- Stand — keep your total.
- Double — double your bet for one more card.
- Split — separate a pair into two hands.
Dealer rules & settlement
The dealer follows fixed rules — typically drawing to 16 and standing on 17. If you beat the dealer you win; if the dealer beats you, you lose; an equal total is a 'push' and your stake is returned. A dealer bust pays all standing hands.
